In order to make sidewalks safe for pedestrians, the resident and/or property owner should remove accumulated snow and ice from all sidewalks along public streets adjoining their property. This includes snow plowed from public streets onto the sidewalk. Any snow or ice remaining on public sidewalks more than 48 hours after its deposit is considered a public nuisance.
The City will maintain sidewalks that are located on City property after the streets have been plowed, as identified in the City’s Snow and Ice Control Policy and in the City’s sidewalk ordinance. Therefore, after 48 hours, the Public Services Department may remove snow and ice as necessary and bill the property owner.
