2022 Budget and Tax Levy: The 2022 Budget and Tax Levy was adopted by the City Council. The City kicked off the 2022 budget process in May and continued it through the summer and fall with a number of work sessions with City Council and staff. At the December 6 meeting, the City Council held the annual Truth In Taxation public hearing to solicit additional comments and feedback on the proposed 2022 property tax levy and budget. The primary 2022 budget and tax levy drivers in 2022 consist of $325,000 in new debt service related to the Jonathan Carver Parkway Improvement Project, $100,000 in additional street maintenance funding connected with the Pavement Management Plan, and approximately $60,000 in pro-rated costs to fund a new Finance Director position that was identified in the City’s Strategic Plan. For more information on the budget, please visit the Resident’s 2022 Budget Guide on the City’s website.
Contract for Police Services: The City Council approved a continuation of its partnership with the Carver County Sheriff’s Office for police services. Costs for police services from the Carver County Sheriff’s Office for 2022 increased by less than 1% over 2021.
2022 6th St. W. Project: The City Council authorized the City Engineer to begin the creation for plans and specifications for an improvement project on 6th St. W. Earlier in 2021, the City was awarded a grant from the State of Minnesota in the amount of $1.25 million for work to 6th St. W. The improvement project, planned to begin in 2022, includes pavement reclamation, storm water improvements, pedestrian and trail enhancements, and street lighting. The current schedule calls for the project to be bid in March, with construction beginning in early May, and the project substantially completed prior to Steamboat Days in early September.
